The protected landscape of Vjetrenica – Popovo Polje is the first stand-alone natural phenomenon in Bosnia and Herzegovina to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is located in the municipality of Ravno, in the south of the country. The area includes the Vjetrenica Cave, one of the largest cave systems in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Dinaric Alps, stretching 7,400 meters in length. Added to the UNESCO list in 2024, Vjetrenica ranks among the world's top sites for biodiversity, home to 232 species of cave-dwelling organisms. The first 700 meters from its entrance are open to visitors and offer an unforgettable underground adventure, which includes admiring the development of cave formations, enjoying the waterfalls and underground streams, discovering the mystical subterranean wildlife and spectacular panoramic views inside the vast cave chambers. The protected area’s visitor complex features the Vjetrenica Biospeleological Museum, located just 300 meters from the cave entrance, where guests can explore the rich history of this valuable region and the cave itself. The Vjetrenica Info & Educational Center offers VR experiences, showcasing Popovo Polje’s landscape and parts of the cave that are not open to the public. In addition, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Popovo Polje or rent bikes to explore medieval tombstones of historical importance, located in the vicinity.
