Rovinj is located close to Lim Channel, on the west coast of the Istrian peninsula, that people have been settling for centuries.
Down to the seafront there is the high and rocky coast on which houses are crowding and towards the inner part of the old city center there used to be medieval and renaissance city walls which can be seen even today. A hilltop Church of St Euphemia overlooks the city. From its sixty meters high tower the Rovinj archipelago, consisting of 22 island amongst which St Catherine’s and St Andrew’s islands are the biggest and most beautiful ones, can be seen. At the top of the tower there is the statue of St Euphemia, that rotates carried by the wind and pointing its direction. Rovinj, which is a city of fishermen, is best symbolised by the traditional wooden boat – batana and a traditional song – bitinada.
