The Municipality of Čitluk is located in the southwestern region of Herzegovina. The earliest written record of the name Brotnjo, which refers to the present-day Municipality of Čitluk, dates back to 24 May 1306, and is to be found in a document issued by the Duke of
Dubrovnik and preserved in the State Archives in Dubrovnik. Out of the approximately
twenty settlements in this municipality, the most visited by tourists is Međugorje – the
largest Marian shrine in the region. Although the smallest in area, the Municipality of Čitluk is considered one of the most economically developed municipalities in Bosnia and
Herzegovina. In addition to tourism as its most important sector, viticulture plays a significant role in the region. Vineyards have been cultivated here for centuries, and today almost every family owns a vineyard, where local wines are produced. Blatina and Žilavka are the most popular grape varieties, and local winemakers use traditional methods to produce wines of exceptional quality. Additionally, Brotnjo boasts the oldest wine cellar in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, which dates back to 1855 and is located in Gradnići. Every September, Čitluk hosts the "Grape Harvest Days", a touristic, cultural, and business event celebrating the start of the grape harvest.
