Let us start from the northern part of the region and National Park Brijuni.

Brijuni National Park is located south-west of the Istrian peninsula. It was founded in 1983 and made a group of 14 small islands. In 1893 Viennese magnate Paul Kupelwieser bought the whole archipelago and built the exclusive resort with hotels, restaurants, casino, yacht harbour, golf course and the Brijuni Island became the prestige resort for Viennese upper class and European bourgeois and aristocrats. In 1945 the Brijuni Island became a personal State Summer Residence of President of Yugoslavia Josip Broz Tito. World famous film stars and states’ representatives like Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Gina Lollobrigida, Nehru, Nasser and others visited Tito on his islands. There are many archaeological sites on the island and remains of the two Roman villas from the 2nd century BC, the Byzantine palace and St. Mary’s Church from the 13th century. One of the attractions are over 200 footprints of the dinosaurs that have been discovered at four sites.
