Once a coronation cite of the Croatian kings, Biograd na moru is a famous touristic and nautical center situated in the middle of the Croatian coastline. There are many reasons why Biograd should be chosen as a holiday destination – from its perfect geographical location in the heart of the Adriatic coastline and national and nature parks in its surroundings to a long tradition in tourism, as well as a rich touristic, cultural, sports and gastronomic service.
Even though Biograd is a relatively small city, it is culturally rich and has a long and eventful history. The most important historic sites include the parish church of St. Anastasia (1761), the early Romanesque church of St. Anthony (from the 13th century), the church of St. Rocco (from the 16th century) and the basilica of St. John (from the 11th century), which remains the only one to have survived the Venetian devastation of Biograd in the year 1125.Also, there is the Regional Museum, where the valuable heritage of the rich regional and coastal history is displayed.
Every year various interesting cultural and entertaining events are organised in the city. Some of them include Gastro stol – a festival of traditional food and drinks, delicacies, souvenirs and folklore held on the first weekend in June, Biogradska noć – held on 4th August and commemorating Victory and Homeland Gratitude Day, as well as Biograd Boat Show, which is the biggest boat show in Croatia.
Besides relaxing on the beautiful beaches surrounded by pine forest, such as Soline, Dražice, Bošana and Crvena luka, visitors may opt for an active vacation including sailing, scuba diving, fishing, cycling or outings to the nearest national parks – Plitvice Lakes, Krka, Paklenica, Northern Velebit or nature parks – Vransko jezero, Telašćica and Velebit.
