The Museum of Herzegovina has been founded in 1950 with the aim to find, collect, preserve and present the rich cultural and historical heritage of Mostar and Hercegovina to the public. The Mum Interpretation Center enables a harmonius presentation of cultural heritage of this region. There is a valuable ethnological collection with 70 exhibits in the Interpretation Center and according to their conception, they open the story of spiritual and religious life in these areas. The Old Bridge Museum with a viewpoint, located in the Tara tower complex, presents the Old Bridge reconstruction project (1999 – 2000) from the 16th century with the associated Tara tower. The Archaeology Department primarily implies the locality of the Basilica in Cim, as well as the Lapidarium of stećak tombstones and sarcophagi that present the progress of that time. The History Department presents the memorial houses of famous people from Mostar who marked it’s turbulent past. Come visit the Džemal Bijedić Memorial House and find out who was this important man and how his political biography presents a cross-section of the political and cultural events of the 20th century in Mostar. The Svetozar Ćorović Memorial House was designated for the needs of literature department. After the war devastation the Herzegovina Museum brought back its former content, precisely the memorial room of Aleksa Šantić, the library, etc. as well as the organization of the event “ Šantić’s poetry evenings” while the City of Mostar set up again the statue of the poet in the park of the same name.
